I think it's natural to distrust attempts to control the ethics of most or all AIs, especially from a narrow interest group. (Narrow compared to the broad range of public opinion.)

I think dying is bad. 

Also, I'm not sure why "no life extension" and "no AGI" have to be linked. We could do life extension without AGI, it'd just be harder.
